Dempo Sports Club (Juniors) came from behind to defeat Salgaocar Sports Club Juniors 4-3 in a GFA First Division Taca Goa U-20 league match at Nehru stadium, Fatorda on Monday. Salgaocar led 3-2 at half time.
Salgaocar went into the lead in the 10th minute when captain Dawson Fernandes bulged the net after receiving a through pass from Gilbert Oliveira.
Ten minutes later, Salgaocar doubled the lead when striker Dawson Fernandes outwitted a couple of defenders and punished Dempo goalkeeper Flann D’Souza with an adroit placement. Gilbert Oliveira inflated their tally in the 33rd minute after picking up a pass from Standly Fernandes.
In the 33rd minute, Terence Fernandes beat the Salgaocar goalkeeper with a right footer.
Dempo showed courage and determination in the remaining part of the opening session with captain Shallum Pires unleashing a volley which deflected off the leg of a rival defender and caught the Salgaocar goalkeeper on the wrong foot.
Dempo put up a better show in the second half and were rewarded in the 51st minute when striker Joshua Vaz scored off a pass from Romeo Fernandes.
After equalizing, Dempo upped the ante and struck the match-winner in the 59th minute.
In the 63rd minute, referee Anjulo Fernandes denied Dempo a penalty when midfielder Jessel Carneiro was tripped inside the box by a Salgaocar defender.
