PANJIM, JAN 2
Dempo will take on Al Fatah in the finals of GPL T20 at GCA stadium, Alto Porvorim on Monday at 2 p.m.
Dempo quelled the challenge of strong Salgaocar by 33 runs and Al Fatah beat Mac Vac Fabricators by 61 runs in the semi-finals on Sunday.
Dempo’s total of 140 for 4 ought not to be a challenge for Salgaocar, who won the toss and opted to bowl. Keenan Vaz, who was later declared man-of-the match, and Madhu Kamat steadied somewhat the Dempo ininings scoring 57 and 50 runs respectively. In fact it was their partnership for the fourth wicket which yielded 108 runs that gave some solidity to Dempo innings.
Swapnil Asnodkar, who single-handedly put Dempo into the semi-finals, disappointed today scoring just seven runs with just one hit to the fence. He was the first to go in just two overs and two balls later, Chandrakant Ghadi departed with the score reading 17 runs. With the addition of another 17 runs, Dempo lost the third wicket, that of Rajesh Ghodge and it was left for Keenan and Madhu to take the score to 132. Keenan topscored with 56 not out with seven fours.
Salgaocar’s Gaurish Gawas took Dempo’s two wickets for 29.
In reply, Salgaocar managed to put on 107 for seven. It was a total failure from their batsmen, who showed lack of application in surpassing the victory target. Dempo’s Shailesh Misquin and Ilyas Naroo had a telling effect claiming two wickets each while Dinesh Naik and Zeshwant Raikar chipped in with one each.
Ajay Ratra and Advait Katkar were not given much room to manoeuvre although they scored  28 and 27 runs respectively. Shadab Jakati could mange only five runs.
Mac Vac (King of Bardez) restricted Al Fatah to 150 for 8 with Amit Yadav capturing four wickets for 24 Vivian Castellino captured 2 for 17.
It was Sher Bahadur Yadav who stole the limelight for Al Fatah with a well-made 41 which had five hits to the ropes and a six. Saeed Shaikh scored 32 with four fours.
Saheel Dhuri and Saeed Shaikh put on 43 runs for the second wicket partnership.
Al Fath bowled out Mac Vac for a meagre 89 in 16.2 overs. Shrinivas Phadte and Yogesh Chodankar wrecked the Mac Vac innings claiming three wickets each. Saheel Dhuri captured two for 13 runs.
Rohit Sabharwal and Krishna Gopal started well, putting on 18 runs for the first wicket, but once Rohit left with the scoreboard reading 18, wickets fell at regular intervals with Ganeshraj Narvekar and Amit Yadav back to the pavilion without any score to their credit.
