Dempo, Rosary College to clash in final

Match at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, at 3 p.m. today

PANJIM: Dempo College, Cujira will clash against Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim in the final of the Goa University Inter Collegiate Football Championship for Men, organised by Goa University, on Monday.
In the first semi-finals, Dempo College came from behind to score a comfortable 3-1 win over MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar.
MES started on an attacking note and took the lead in the 20th minute through Rajkamak Bind. Dempo College tried to get back into the game as they pressed hard with attacking football and finally managed to draw level in the 42nd minute through Devendra Murgaokar. The goal boosted the morale of the Dempo College team who dominated the final minutes of the first half and scored their second through Devendra, who completed his brace.
Crossing over, Dempo took control of the game and pinned MES in their own half. The Zuarinagar based College found it difficult to break the resolute Dempo defending. In the 71st minute, Zuhid Makandar scored the team’s third and made the issues safe for the team.
In the second semi-finals, favourites Rosary College, Navelim downed Government COllege Sanquelim in an entertaining match which witnessed end-to-end football.
Both the teams failed to score in the first half of the match. Changing ends, Rosary College scored from a corner kick through Clive Miranda in the 55th minute. The Navelim College doubled the lead in the 74th minute through Dawson Costa.
The final will be played on Monday at Duler Stadium, at 3 p.m.
