OLD GOA/ UTORDA/ NAVELIM: Dempo Sports Club climbed to the top position following a comprehensive 5-0 win over Calangute Association while Salgaocar Football Club and Sporting Clube de Goa continued their pursuit for the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League following their respective wins in the league matches on a busy Monday evening.
Beevan D’Mello scored a treble that helped the Golden Eagles go atop with 35 points from 15 games, while Salgaocar FC who eased their way past Guardian Angel SC 4-1 to move to 32 points from 15 games and Sporting Clube also grabbed vital points and moved to 31 points from 13 games after their 2-0 win over Corps of Signals.
Beevan stars for Golden Eagles
At Ella ground, Beevan D’Mello was the highlight of the day for the Golden Eagles. Dempo SC opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Beevan on receiving a pass from the flank from Suraj, dribbled past the defender and easily rounded the onrushing keeper, to score the first. The second goal came in the 32nd minute when Beevan headed in a perfect pass from Pedro.
The striker completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute when he nodded home Suraj’s corner kick to give Dempo SC a 3-0 lead at the break.
Crossing over, the Golden Eagles continued their dominance over the struggling Calangute Association and scored the fourth through Pedro Gonsalves, whose curling shot from outside the box landed in the far corner before he completed his brace in the dying minutes of the game to take the final tally to 5-0.
Devendra nets a brace for Salgaocar
Devendra Murgaonkar scored a fine brace and Ronaldo Oliveira and Stephen Satarkar scored a goal each for the Green Brigade in the 4-1 win over the Curchorem side. The winners led 2-0 at the break.
Crossing over, Aslon Oliveria reduced the deficit for the losing side, but Salgaocar FC scored two more goals in the final 10 minutes to make it 4-1.
Gautam, Trijoy on target for Sporting
AT 3MTR ground, Navelim, Sporting Clube de Goa scored two goals in the first 30 minutes which were enough for them to walk away with full points from Signals.
Sporting Clube de Goa, stamping their authority pushed from the first minute and didn’t allow the host team to keep the ball for long.
The Panjim-based team deservingly took the lead in the 16th minute through Gautam Dias, whose 30 yard cracker had no answer from the rival custodian.
Signals found it difficult to play against the strong Sporting side who consolidated their lead in the 29th minute when Ganesh played the ball to Trijoy Dias, and the latter smashed in a half volley from outside the box, which landed in the far top corner, 2-0.
Sporting Clube de Goa led 2-0 at the break.
Crossing over, despite raids, Signals failed to score past the strong and stubborn Sporting Clube de Goa defence.
