Dempo SC Juniors top Ilhas zone

PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club Juniors outplayed FC Goa 5-2 to emerge Ilhas zone champions in the GFA 3rd Division League match, at St Cruz ground, on Thursday.
Rinjoy Fernandes, Dataraj Pednekar, Ramnath Dabolkar, Valerio Palha and Azirat scored for The Golden Eagles while Kiran Kari and Yogesh Gawas netted for FC Goa.
Dempo Juniors took the upper hand from the first minute and drew first blood in the very second minute when Dataraj and Paras played a quick one-two before setting Rinjoy Fernandes, whose low strike gave no chance for the rival keeper.
Down by an early goal, FC Goa tried to get back into the match but they were seen strggling to get past strong and resolute Dempo Juniors defence led by Valerian Palha and Shankar.
Dempo Juniors doubled the lead in the 26th minute through Dataraj Pednekar. Dempo Juniors’ Ramnath sent a low cross to Paras, whose stretched effort was brilliantly saved by onrushing keeper Sukhi but the ball rolled to Dataraj, who had little trouble to score into empty nets.
In the very next minute, FC Goa pulled one back through Kiran Kari who headed past Dempo keeper Flezborn, off a set piece from the left flank.
Just when FC Goa were trying to find the equalizer, Dempo Juniors scored the third when Oasmiro sent a defence splitting pass to Ramnath Dabolkar, who showed his composed nature infront of the goal before beating the keeper with a deft placement.
Crossing over, FC Goa scored yet again from another set piece when Yogesh Gawas sneaked in to head home Kiran’s cross to make it 3-2.
Just when it looked like FC Goa could get into the match, Dempo’s Valerian Palha scored the fourth in the 81st minute before Azirat scored the fifth the 89th minute.
