Dempo SC make light work of Vasco SC

Goals from second half substitutes Suraj, Abranches and a Warren own goal enabled the Golden Eagles to a comfortable 3-0 win over the Port Towners

PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club defeated Vasco Sports Club 3-0 in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League played at Ella ground, on Thursday.
Goals from second half substitutes Suraj Hadkonkar and Joaquim Abranches and an own goal by Warren Pereira enabled Dempo SC to a 3-0 win. 
In the opening minutes of the game both the sides restricted the play to the midfield battle but Vasco SC were first to create the chance when Suraj Mondal played a cross in the box to Nived but his effort failed to be in the frame.
There were series of chances created by Vasco SC who were using their flanks to their advantage as Sanwil D’Costa played a curl shot in the box to Anil Gaonkar, but the lad’s header missed the target.
Finally at the half hour mark, Golden Eagles had a chance to break the deadlock when they were awarded a free-kick outside the box but Nickson Castanha’s effort went way off target. With just few moments left to the half time, Vasco’s Anil had a golden opportunity to put his side ahead when their forward Suraj easily danced past Dempo’s three defenders and set him up with just the keeper to beat but the winger shot on rival keeper Luis Barreto instead of directing the ball in the net.
In the second half soon after the restart Vasco SC’s Olumide’s cross cum shot was cleverly dealt by Golden Eagles keeper Luis Barreto. 
In the 55th minute, Vasco Sports Club conceded a silly goal when Warren guided the ball into his own net while dealing with a Golden Eagles’ Desmond’s cross.
Once up by a goal, it was all about the Golden Eagles who dominated the play. Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa came with fine save to keep Beevan’s shot at bay.

However Dempo SC finally scored the second goal through Suraj who disposed Aliston and covered some distance before scoring past the keeper.
Soon Suraj was instrumental in the third goal when on reviving a pass in the midfield he played a defence splitting pass to Abranches and the latter kept his composure in scoring past the keeper Suraj, who was otherwise brilliant in the evening, 3-0.
