PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club registered their first win in the I-League 2 with a narrow 1-0 win over Sporting Club Bengaluru, at Dempo SC Academy ground, Ella Old Goa, on Wednesday.
Second half substitute Laximanrao Rane scored the lone goal of the game in the second half.
Dempo Sports Club had a great start to the game with Vasim Inamdar and Vieri Colaco creating regular inroads upfront.
The duo created couple of chances early where first Vasim’s effort missed the target and later S Doungle reached late at the far post.
However, the best chance of the game came in the midway in the first half, when Necio Fernandes sent in a pass towards Doungle from a short corner, only to see the latter’s effort hit the crossbar.
SC Bengaluru, despite trying their best to get in the Dempo SC territory were nullified by a good defending by Mohamed Ali and Brian Faria.
In the second half, Dempo SC were handed an advantage when SC Bengaluru player Shanid Valan was sent off for double bookings in the 74th minute. Earlier, Dempo SC’s Sanwil D’Costa attempted a shot from a distance which was cleanly collected by the rival custodian.
Dempo SC finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute when a long-ball from Dempo SC Mohamed Ali found Necio Fernandes’ who flicked the ball in Laximanrao’s path who smashed in a low left footer past the rival keeper.
