PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club remained unbeaten throughout the AIFF U-17 Youth League Group D matches and finished top to qualify for the next round following their 1-0 win over FC Goa in the ultimate league clash at Monte de Guirim ground, on Thursday.

There was no score in the first half, despite being an end to end battle. The goal arrived for Dempo SC in the second half in the the 67th minute from a setpiece.

FC Goa player brought down Phati Mayekar outside the box. Dempo’s leff full-back Vedant Gadekar stepped over and curled in a perfect freekick giving no chance for the rival keeper to make it 1-0. That proved to be the match-winner.

Dempo had couple of chances in the second half, but Anni Singh failed to make it count.

“I am happy with the team performance. We are unbeaten in the group and the positives are we have kept cleansheets in our last four games. Table topper is sweet. But that’s history now. We have to focus on final phase. Humility and good preparation is the key for good performance,” stated Dempo SC coach Pradip Chopdekar.

“Thanks to the club president Shrinivas Dempo, CEO Pradhyum Reddy and the staff. I would like to dedicate the wins to the former technical director Katz Naidoo,” Chopdekar.
