MAPUSA; Dempo Sports Club registered a well deserved 3-0 win over new entrants Youth Club of Manora in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium here on Friday.
Both the teams took the field after their last league match defeats, Dempo being stunned by Calangute Association and YC Manora losing to FC Goa.
YC Manora coach Roque Carneiro was back in action after his suspension bringing six changes in his Starting XI while Dempo coach Samir Naik brought just two changes.
Golden Eagles went into the breather from Edwin Viegas two goal headers, while Beevan D’Mello came from the bench netting in the third goal.
From Friday’s win, Dempo SC stay in contest for the GPL league title with 14 points while YC Manora with just four points are fighting for relegation.
After almost quarter of the match being restricted to midfield the Golden Eagles took the lead in the 17th minute where Edwin Viegas deceived the rival defenders by heading the ball into the goal from the first post off Pedro Gonsalves’ free-kick.
Stung by the goal, Manora outfit had three good chances to level terms. A teasing cross at the goal by skipper Nicholas Fernandes in the 18th minute saw Joywin Carneiro tap the ball over the cross bar.
Two minutes later, Joywin dribbled past three defenders but his shot hit the rival defender and the ball went for a corner.
The best chance for Manora came in the 39th minute where a long through ball by Joywin was collected by U-20 Melisho Camotio on the run and after covering almost twenty meters drilled a stiff grounder from just outside the penalty box at the goal but the alert keeper Melroy Fernandes managed to push the ball for a corner with a full stretched diving save.
While Manora did most of the attacking it was Golden Eagles who netted in their second goal with Edwin Viegas netting his brace with a low header off U-20 Richard Cardozo corner to make it 2-0.
Just five minutes into the second half and Golden Eagles were reduced to ten men with the sending off Kirtikesh Gadekar by referee Mario Pereira with direct red card booking for kicking Jason Barbosa.
Golden Eagles playing with a men down yet came with repeated attacks. Desmon Pereira was twice unlucky not to add his name to the scorers list as his first effort came off the goal post while minutes later Manora keeper Alison Soares thwarted him in one-to-one situation.
Another two open sitters from substitute Suraj Hadkonkar and Beevan D’Mello went over the cross bar.
However in the stoppage time, Dempo skipper Shallum Pires sent a square pass to unmarked Beevan D’Mello who guided the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
