MAPUSA: Dempo (Juniors) thumped Jawahar Club, Ponda 2-0 in a GFA Second Division football league match at Dr Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao, Friday. Dempo led 1-0 at half time.
Dempo started off on an attacking note and did not allow their rivals to settle down. Myron Fernandes gave his team the lead in the 29th minute with a rasping shot that left the rival goalkeeper stunned.
After resumption, Jawahar tried hard to get back into the game but their strikers lacked sharpness in front of the rival goal.
At the other end, Dempo enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession and netted their second in the dying minutes through Edgar Sequeira’s strike.
At Sangolda ground, Sesa Football Academy piped Saligao United by a solitary goal.
