PANJIM: Derrick Menezes from Goa will lead the Goa windsurfing challenge whilst Captain Patankar will try to retain his sea bird title during the fifth edition of the 75 Knotts Regatta starting at Dolphin water sports at Hawaii beach, Dona Paula on Tuesday.
“The weather is playing dicey but that will not dampen the spirits of all the sailors and windsurfers from India that have been participating for the last four years,” stated race steward Anil Madgavkar.
“Some years back, my friends who retired expressed their desire to get back into competitive water sports again and that is why I thought of having a regatta for all of us. I happened to be completing 75 years then and that is why the name 75knotts Regatta ,” stated Cesar Menezes, the brain behind the event.
“Except for two sailors and one windsurfer most participants make it a point to attend the regatta. We have a few more faces this time around and it will help swell the camaraderie,” stated Derrick Menezes, start windsurfer from Goa who is set to retain his title this time around.
The event starts at 10 am and winds up by 5pm. Participants will need to register in the morning at 9 am and races are to start at 10 am, “The winds are normally down when it rains but we expect the winds to pick up,’ stated Anil.
