Deva packs a punch, enters finals

PANJIM: Deva Naik punched his way to the finals beating Omkar Gadekar (People's) in the senior 69kg event of 7th All-Goa Pandharinath Shirodkar memorial boxing championship at Don Bosco Oratory, here, Friday.

PANJIM: Deva Naik punched his way to the finals beating Omkar Gadekar (People’s) in the senior 69kg event of 7th All-Goa Pandharinath Shirodkar memorial boxing championship at Don Bosco Oratory, here, Friday. 
The George Brothers, both Keith and Kevin got the better of their respective opponents. 
Sandeep BC, the youngest boxer of Panjim Boxing Club  and the crowd favorite won the gold medal after throwing a fury of punches on his opponent, Rohan Salgaonkar (St Joseph).
The last bout of the day saw Bhim and Pratik Naik (People’s) fighting it out till the very end, although Bhim much shorter to his opponent was going for the first attack and using basic left, right power punches at his opponent. Bhim earned himself a gold medal.
Results – (Semis) C-32kg: Vinayak Patil (PCC) beat Aman Kambali (M Boys). C-32kg: Ajay Talvar (Sai PED) lost to Abhishek Prasad (PBC). 49kg: Kevin George (People’s) beat Nikhil Narvekar (M Boys). 49kg: Ramesh Bike (PBC) beat Vishwas Pednekar (Ranger). 52kg: Gavrao Naik (People’s) beat Ahmed Sayyed (Ranger). 52kg: Wellington (Margao) lost to Umesh Chavan (Sai Peddem). 56kg: Sumit Bansi (PBC) beat Dawal SAB (Margao). 
1st round — 56kg: Keith George (People’s) beat Khurshid Alam (RCC Panjim). Senior — 56kg: Dhiraj Mange (M Boys) lost to Malik Sab (PCB). 
69kg: Deva Naik (PBC) beat Omkar Gadekar (People’s). 
Final — E24kg: Rohan Salgaonkar (St Joseph) lost to Sandeep BC (PBC). E30kg — Prabhat Naik (Margao) beat Parshuram Lague (Sai PED). D30kg: Sanket Nagvekar (Sai Ped) lost to Harish Shety (PBC). 
D34kg: Rajan Kumar (St Joseph) beat Rahul Pujari (Saligao). A44kg: Shankar Thapa (PCB) lost to Mulali Bijgar (Ranger). A80kg: Kudbudin Shaikh (RCC) lost to Rohit Kunkalkar (PBC). J-81kg: Bhim (PBC) beat Pratik Naik (People’s). 
The bouts on Saturday will commence at 10.30 a.m.
