SANGUEM: Devesh Anand Naik from Ponda scored 6.5 points to take top honours in the Rating Category of 1500-1749 at the Kashvi’s 1st International Fide Rated Chess Tournament 2023 organised by Kashvi Chess School, at Indiana Conference Hall, Mangaluru, recently.
Devesh bagged a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy. In the below 1249 Category, Sarvang Pagi scored 5.5 points to secure the 5th place and win cash prize of Rs 10,000.
IM Nitesh Belurkar secured 7.5 points and stood 7th in the main prize list followed by IM Audi Ameya, who scored 7 points and stood overall 16th. Both Belurkar and Audi won cash prize of Rs 10,000 each. Though Belurkar and Audi were on joint second and third place respectively, the tie points brought their final standing to 7th and 16th position for the determination of the final prize list.
In the U-8 Boys Category, Prayank Gaonkar secured second place with cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy, while in U-10 Girls Category, Muriel Shanessa Fernandes from Sanguem and a Class IV student of Child Care Primary School, Margao, secured third place and won a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a trophy.
As many as seven players made it to the final prize list in the tournament which was participated by 407 chess players including four Grandmasters and 15 International Masters.
The tournament had 309 rated players from among the total 407 participants making it one of the top tournaments with maximum participation from rated players.
