PANJIM: DMC College, Assagao thrashed Government college, Sanquelim 4-0 to move into the quarter-finals of AC Fernandes memorial trophy, organized by Herald Group in association with GOA, at Santa Cruz ground, Sunday.
The highlight of the day was a splendid hat-trick by Tejas Shirodkar.
At the stroke of half time the hard work and determination of DMC paid dividends. Defender Akshay Dhabolkar made a daunting run, dribbling two rival defenders and sent in a perfect cross to Tejas, who headed in for the opener.
Just before the lemon break, DMC’s playmaker Abhijit Salgaonkar sent in a delightful ball to Tejas, who finished with a deft placement for the second goal.
The second half started in same fashion with DMC dominating most of the proceedings. Abhijit was a constant threat and kept troubling the rival defense with dangerous through balls.
In the 50th minute, substitute Savio Rodrigues showed good presence of mind to score of a fine placement to take make it 3-0.
Just before the final, hard-working Tejas drove the last nail into the rival coffin to make it 4-0 and secure his hat-trick. The scoreline would have increased but Government College Sanquelim defender Kanivi Kauthankar stood tall in the centre, denying the DMC attackers on several occasions.
