Do-or-die as Sporting Clube take on Dempo SC

VASCO: Sporting Clube de Goa are geariang up for their biggest challenge this season as they take on city rivals Dempo SC in a crucial I-League 2 encounter at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Sunday, 4 pm.

SC Bengaluru have already secured their place in next season I-Leaguea with two rounds to go and four teams are in contention to jostle for the second spot for promotion including Sporting Clube and Dempo SC.

When the two teams met in the first leg, Sporting Clube were on a fine run but ended up going down 1-2 at the Dempo Academy ground, Ella, Old Goa. 

“The atmosphere is really good in the team and we are looking forward for Sunday’s game,” said Sporting Clube Technical Advisor Climax Lawrence.

Sporting Clube will want to make their most in their home fixture in Vasco. 

They have to bounce back from a shocking 0-3 defeat away againsta Maharashtra Oranje FC, while Dempo SC had trounced Kenkre FC 4-0 to move to the second spot.

“We have to win our next two matches anyhow. There is no other way. I believe in the boys and they can do it,” said Climax, the former India international.

SC Bengaluru are on top of the standings with 27 points from 12 games.

Sudeva Delhi FC defeated FC Bengaluru United on Saturday which helped them take a second spot with 23 points from 13 games.

Dempo SC are third with 21 points from 12 matches, followed by Bengaluru United on 20 points from 13 games. Sporting Clube are fifth with 19 points from 12 games.
