MARGAO: Last editions runners-up Sporting Clube de Goa would be keen to end their dismal two match losing streak as they take on Royal Wahingdoh FC in their Group A league encounter of the 36th Hero Federation Cup, at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Sunday. The kick-off is at 7 p.m.
Sporting Club de Goa had a poor run in the tournament and are yet to register a win after two matches.
The Flaming Oranje will be eager to turn around the floundering fortunes after suffering two consecutive defeats. But the task is not easy for the Panjim outfit. Their mentor Clifford Chukwuma was quick to highlight the need for a winning streak.
“It is pretty simple. We have one more game, we have to win all the matches to stay alive in this competition and it is a great challenge. We are relaxed and will play our normal game and work hard to win,” said the Nigerian tactician.
While Sporting Clube de Goa will bank on Trinidad and Tobago striker Anthony Wolfe India international Victorino Fernandes and Beevan D’Mello will also share the burden in attack. Sporting Clube’s defence need to tighten up and provide confidence to their midfield.
Royal Wahingdoh will be equally eager to ensure that their decent performance is not snapped by the Goan team. They know that they cannot afford any slips on Sunday.
Jackichand Singh has been a revelation upfront and scored a brace in their opening match against Mumbai FC.
They will be hoping that their strikers Liberian Bekay Bawar and Seituasen Singh will be at their best.
Midfielder Lalmangaihsanga will miss the encounter after he received a red card in the previous match against East Bengal. Much will also depend on Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Densil Theobald to spray flawless passes to his forwards.
