MAPUSA: A brilliant hat-trick by Dominic Fernandes enabled Calangute Association register a 4-1 win over Bardez Football Club in the Goa Professional League match, organised by GFA and played at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.
Both the teams fighting to avoid relegation saw them play almost on equal footing in the first session.
Thursday’s win saw Calangute Association with ten points from 14 matches while Bardez Football Club stay on six points from 13 matches.
Calangute’s coach Agostinho Dias did not field his two foreign signing Sidath Ndiaye and Abdoul Ahat Fall and put his trust on the local boys that saw the team march into the dressing room with a one goal cushion.
However finally in the 15th minute Calangute opened their account. Mohammad sent a pinpoint cross which was brilliantly controlled by striker Sanket Jotkar who in turn set up Dominic Fernandes at the top of the penalty box whose rasping shot had no answer from Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvokar, 1-0.
Bardez colts in the absence of their NorthEast players saw the local lads come with some fine moves in the last five minutes before the breather.
On resumption of play, in the 2nd minute, Bardez colts should have equalised but unmarked Carl DSouza saw his tap off a free kick by Richard Cardoz travel over the post.
Calangute colts regrouped themselves and further consolidated their lead in the 60th minute. Runal Shirodkar cross saw Dominic header hit the rival defender hand and the ball once again came to Dominic who this time made no mistake to net his brace, with a fine placement 2-0.
In the 65th minute Bardez colts came back into the match as they pulled a goal. Carl DSouza found Richard at the right flank whose strike at the goal hit the leg of Calangute defender Gaurav Vaigankar before the ball entered the goal 2-1.
In the last five minutes before the final hooter Calangute came with series of attacks on the rival citadel, but it was some brilliant keeping by Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvokar who denied Sachidanand, Akash Sanadi and Jason from scoring. However in the added time Calangute’s Sachidanand Satelkar and Dominic Fernandes fired in two more goals to take the score tally to 4-1.
