Don Bosco College, Panjim, secured hundred per cent results at the B.P.Ed examination conducted by Goa University.
Dr Marie Raj, principal, told Herald, that there were five distinctions, 23 first classes and four second classes. This was the 6th batch since its inception.
Dr Marie Raj stated that admissions for 40 seats in the new 2010-11 academic year would be open once the results of graduate courses are declared, with preference being given to those who have representations at international, inter-university, National and State level tournaments, although others are also eligible.
The college has a working Memorundum of Understanding (MoU) with Porto University’s Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and the Portuguese Olympic Committee, with facilities for students registering for post-graduation course in Porto, Dr Mari Raj said and added that a delegation from the Portuguese university had conducted a workshop on sports nutrition for the B P Ed students in February this year, besides launching a special programme on prevention and monitoring diabetes.
The college has also been closely associated with Goa Football Association (GFA) with the students being involved in organising Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy, Tata Tea inter-school tournaments as part of their internship. Besides, the students also undergo the D-Licence course for coaching in football and have an option to appear for the referees examination, added Fr Wilfred Fernandes,administrator-cum-manager of college.
Don Bosco College is the only college in Goa offering the B P Ed course which has been especially introduced to give Goan boys and girls a chance to acquire the necessary qualification for taking up a job in high schools, DSYA.
