PANJIM: Malcolm Gonsalves scored a hat-trick for Don Bosco High School, Panjim in their run away 6-0 victory over Our Lady of Divar High School in the semi-finals of the All Goa Tiswadi Taluka Under-14 football championship organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Panjim, at the Taleigao grounds.
In a one sided encounter dominated by Don Bosco who scored goals at will, a splendid hat trick by Malcolm Gonsalves was the highlight of the match. Other players who contributed to Bosco’s big win were David Cardozo (2) and Aman Govekar (1) ensuring that their school books its rightful place in the U-14 Tiswadi Taluka finals.
Don Bosco will now meet the winners of the other semi-finals which will be played between Fr. Agnelo High School, Pilar and St Thereza High School, Candolim on Septeber 18th.
Fr. Agnelo High School,Pilar were lucky to beat Jesus and Mary High School, Carambolim 1-0 in the quarter finals with both teams dishing out a good football. Defenders of both the teams excelled, making it difficult for the rival forwards to go pass them.
Fr Agnel, Pilar scored the only goal of the match through a penalty kick when Boris was brought down by Elden D’Souza, the Jesus and Mary midfielder just outside the penalty box. To the surprise of all the referee pointed to the dreaded spot and awarded Fr Agnel a penalty kick in the dying minutes of the match, in fact should have been a direct free kick from outside the penalty area, since the offence was committed outside the penalty area. The yellow too was not flashed at the offending player, says a press handout by Frankie Mascarenhas.
Off the resultant penalty Richmond Nunes scored for Fr. Agnel H.S.,Pilar to send them to the semi-finals, while St Thereza High School, Candolim defeated Bal Bharthi Vidyamandir High School, Ribandar by a 2-1 margin, to book their place in the semi-finals too.
Karan Bhaskar and Shivram Udhar scored for St Thereza, Candolim School.
Santan Rodrigues and Orlando D’Souza played well for St Thereza, while Tushant reduced the margin for Bal Bharathi High School, Ribandar.
