RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, defeated Santa Cruz Society, Poitomoddo, Cuncolim 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of 49th Chandor Seamen football tournament organised by Chandor Club, at Chandor ground, on Monday.
It was a pulsating match, which was enjoyed by a large crowd.
Santa Cruz Society drew the first blood through Jollyton Fernandes in the eight minute when he headed in a corner.
Don Bosco Oratory mounted pressure on their opponents and succeeded in equalising in the 17th minute through Wedly Barrotto, who cleverly chipped over the goalkeeper from the left flank.
At half time, both teams were level a goal apiece.
Both teams began the second half in great earnest to score but the winning goal eluded them till 53rd minute, when Don Bosco Oratory defender Alfred Noronha neatly placed the ball into the goal following a corner.
Player-of-the-match was bagged by Alfred Noronha of Don Bosco Oratory, which was presented by Martin Fernandes, treasurer of Chandor Club.
