RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, pipped Carmona SC 1-0 to enter into the quarter-finals of the 17th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup organised by Guirdolim Club, at the Chandor church sports complex ground, on Thursday.
The match started with Carmona SC dominating proceedings but Don Bosco Oratory soon regrouped and took control of the midfield. Good goalkeeping by both goalkeepers ensured that the teams went into the break without troubling the scorers.
After change of ends, Don Bosco Oratory created many chances but their strikers were wayward. In the 45th minute, Handslum of Don Bosco Oratory missed an easy sitter with only the Carmona keeper at his mercy. The introduction of Cliff Barreto in the Don Bosco Oratory midfield changed the complexion of the match as it was his long ball from the flank that found Velton D’Souza with space on top of the 18-yard box with the later firing a long ranger to beat the Carmona keeper and score in the 57th minute what proved to be the winning goal for Don Bosco Oratory.
Velton D’Souza was awarded the player of the match by Glimson Fernandes, Sports Secretary of Guirdolim Club.
