Don Bosco Oratory storm into semis

RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, secured a 3-1 victory against Saligao United, advancing to the semi-finals of the 16th London Trophy Inter-Village football tournament 2024, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at the Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Tuesday.

In the 3rd minute, Elroy Barretto propelled Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, into the lead by navigating past Sasha Jadhav in the Saligao United goal, sidestepping central defender Paulo Joao in the process.

Hanslum Furtado’s three attempts for Don Bosco Oratory, in the 6th, 15th and one-on-one effort, were saved by Saligao United’s keeper Sasha Jadhav. Don Bosco Oratory led with a solitary goal at halftime.

Saligao United missed a golden opportunity to equalise when Shubham Dessai’s shot from Latesh Mandrekar’s well-executed free kick went weakly into the hands of Karol Soares, the Don Bosco Oratory goalkeeper, in the 41st minute.

Hanslum Furtado extended the lead for Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, in the 45th minute, converting a pass from Myron Fernandes. However, Saligao United swiftly responded as Micheal Dias headed in a goal from Nestor Dias’ corner in the 46th minute.

The victory was sealed for Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, in the 56th minute by substitute Edison Dias, whose powerful snap shot found the back of the Saligao United nets.

Despite Saligao United’s aggressive attacks, including Nestor Dias and Latesh Mandrekar’s powerful strikes saved by Karol Soares, the Don Bosco Oratory goalkeeper, and Paulo Joao’s header easily caught by Soares, the score remained in favour of Don Bosco Oratory.

During the match, Wedly Barretto of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, and Jayganesh Goltekar and Govind Mahale of Saligao United received cautions from the match referee Shravan Lamani. The man-of-the-match award was presented to Hanslum Furtado by Michael D’Souza, Vice President of Goa Velha Sports Club.
