Don Bosco Oratory take home Catao Cup

PANJIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda blanked Dicarpale Sports Club 4-2 in the final to clinch the Catao Cup, dedicated to late Caetano Fernandes, football tournament organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at Chinchinim church ground, on Sunday. The score at lemon break was 3-2 in favour of Don Bosco Oratory.

Don Bosco Oratory scored in the very 7th minute through Cliff Baretto’s long range shot off an assist from team-mate Charlton Pereira.
Soon, they doubled the lead in the 10th minute, when Charles Miranda’s snap shot coolly sailed into the net of Dicarpale.
With the early form, charged up Don Bosco Oratory manoeuvred all over Dicarpale territory with ease and in the 20th minute increased their tally through Minguel Baretto’s header off a supply from Savio Quadros. 
Worried Dicarpale in search of goals upped their tempo and started attacking the rival territory. Their efforts bore fruits in the 23rd minute when Agnelo Colaco’s deft placement shot entered into the nylons of Don Bosco Oratory with an assist from Bonny Niasco.
Immediately, Dicarpale further reduced their margin in the 27th minute through Macklon Colaco’s rasping shot which crushed into the rival nets. Perryson Rebello assisted.
Crossing over, Dicarpale Sports Club tried hard to score the equaliser but the defence of Don Bosco Oratory stood like a rock. In the bargain, Dicarpale striker Agnelo missed a chance to score in the 36th minute as he shot wide. Dicarpale wasted lot of chances as their forwards lacked accuracy in shooting. 
Don Bosco Oratory made the issue safe by scoring the fourth goal in the 39th minute.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 plus trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 20,000 plus trophy. 
The other prizes awarded were: Best goalkeeper Blington Baretto (Don Bosco Oratory), best defender Macklon Colaco (Dicarpale), best half Agnelo Colaco (Dicarpale), best forward Minguel Baretto (Don Bosco Oratory, man-of-the-match Cliff Baretto (Don Bosco Oratory) and best discipline team Sao Minguel de Taleigao.
Bernard Fernandes, member of the legendary ABCD of Vasco Sports Club, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honours Mrs Fernandes, wife of late Catao and Velim Constituency MLA Benjamin Silva.
Earlier, Chairman of Union of Chinchinim Villagers Royan Viegas welcomed. Carlos compered while Charlton proposed a vote of thanks.
