PANJIM: Don Bosco Engineering College, Fatorda, Margao will take on Government College, Quepem while Rosary College, Navelim will lock horns with IAM College, Verna in the prestigious AC Fernandes memorial inter-collegiate football tournament, organized by Herald Group in association with GOA, at Panchayat ground, Nagoa, Verna, on Sunday, 3 p.m.
Don Bosco created history when they won the Goa University football championship in their debut season in 2012. They have also been crowned champions of the Don Bosco Oratory Futsal championship. Aggio Antao will lead the attack followed by the hard-working Kanchan Kiro. Fraizer Rogtao will take charge in the defense.
On the other hand, Government College Quepem is doing extremely well in sports and consistently performing well at the Goa University tournaments. GCQ was the first college from South Goa to be awarded “SJAG Geno Award” for the Best Outstanding College in sports in the year 2005-06.
The management supports the team really well.
The encouragement received from all the quarters help the GCQ sportspersons to perform well in spite of all the shorts comings. The college is also doing well in football and in the year 2011, they emerged runners-up at the Goa University Football tournament and last year their women’s team emerged winners in the same tournament.
Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim keeper Jovial Couthino will handle responsibility under the bar followed by Alton Vaz who plays for St Anthony Club Assolda.
Former Shivijians player Menino Menezes will also don colors for GCQ College.
They aspire to give the big wigs a run for their money and if possible even clinch the title.
