Double joy for sensational Floyd

Pranjal and Chirag clinched the junior girls and junior boys singles titles respectively

PANJIM: Floyd Araujo emerged double crown winner while Pranjal Chimulkar and Chirag Ramdas walked away with the junior girls and junior boy’s under-19 singles titles respectively, at the Shuttlers Club all-Goa major ranking badminton tournament, at indoor stadium, Campal, here, Saturday.
Floyd who was down by match point in the deciding set found the mental reserves to pull off a sensational 19-21, 21-16, 22-20 win over Sharmad Mahajan to lift the men’s singles title.
Later, Floyd along with Darwin Barretto won the men’s doubles event as the duo registered a comfortable 21-9, 21-15 win over top seeds Pankaj Naik and Navneet Nasnodkar. For Darwin, it was his maiden title in the doubles circuit. 
In girl’s under-19 singles, young Manjushri Raut put up a good fight as she went down fighting to top seed Pranjal Chimulkar, who won 15-21, 21-16, 21-17 in three tight sets.
Tejan Fallary looked all set to win the under-19 boys singles with a dominant performance in the first set but Chirag Ramdas fought hard to emerge winner with a 11-21, 22-20, 21-10 score line. 
In girls under-17 singles, Anjana Kumari prevailed over Manjushri Raut, winning 23-21, 21-17 while Tejan Fallary beat Dhruv Angle 21-12, 21-14 to win the under-17 boys singles title. 
The tournament was conducted by NIS coaches Roy Athaide and Vinayak Kamat. Prizes were distributed by Manoj Patil, President of Rotary Club of Panjim, who was the chief guest for the occasion.
Richard D’ Souza, President of Goa Badminton Association; Narahar Thakur, Secretary and GBA officials Sarfraz Sheikh, Sandeep Heble and Santosh Prabhudesai graced the occasion.
