PANJIM: Dr K B Hedgewar Vidyalay, Ponda, scored nine matcha points and 16 game points to emerge champions in the 12th SRS Ponda Taluka School Chess Championship organised by SRS Vedic Mathematics Academy, Mangeshi , in association with Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA), at Wagle High School, Mangeshi, , recently.
Seventeen schools participated in the tournament with four players representing each school.
GVM’s Utkarsh Vidyamandir secured second place by scoring nine match points and 15 game points, while S S Samiti’s Smt IVBD High School securing third place by scoring seven match points and 13 game apoints.
Sharda English High School, Marcel; Vidhya Vruddhi School, Ponda, and GVM’s A J De Almeida High School secured the 4th to 6th place respectively.
Trophies and certificates were distributed by Sagar Sakordekar (founder, Vedic Mathematics Academy and PTCA president), Amogh Namshiker (arbiter and PTCA secretary), Anand Kurtikar (Arbiter and PTCA executive member), Mitasha Aigal (headmistress, Wagle High school), Sanjay Nadkarni (sportsman from Mangeshi) and Sandesh Naik (joint secretary, PTCA).
Swastik Vidyalay, Priol; Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar High School, VD & SV Wagle High School, Gurukul Academy, Smt Anandibai Naik High School, GVM’s MIBK High School, GVM’s Pragati Vidyalay, Borim; Mahatma Gandhi Centenary School, Gaunem; Saraswati High School, Kavlem; Sarvodaya High School, Usgao and School of Symbiosis, Shiroda, were other schools which participated.
Assistant arbiter Vrajesh Natekar and Swayam Naik took active part in conductingthe tournament.
Radha Sakordekar compered and later proposed a vote of thanks.
