MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa played their hearts out to register a 3-1 win over Dempo Sports Club in the GFA’s Charity match, played under floodlights, at Duler Stadium, here on Sunday.
The few spectators that came to witness the match had a glimpse of the most talked Bandodkar’s Gold Trophy which was displayed at the VIP gallery.
At the breather GFA’s President Elvis Gomes was introduced by GFA’s Secretary Welvin Menezes and the lone GFA executive member Patrick D’Souza to both the teams and match officials. Surprisingly both the Vice-President and the rest GFA executive members did not turn up for the Charity match.
Sporting went into the breather in the 35th minute with a one goal cushion where a stiff grounder by Victorino Fernandes was blocked by keeper Tyson Caiado to find substitute Marcus Mascarenhas slam the ball into the nets to give his side the lead.
On crossing over in the 53rd minute, Dempo’s Josley Dias levelled terms with a close header.
However, in the 82nd minute, Victorino scored with a neat header while in the 89th minute Glan Martins scored with a rasping 30-yard rasping right footer to make it 3-1.
