Dunes clinch 4th Parra P’yat Cup

MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club Mandrem came back strongly from a goal down to register a 3-1 win over Goan Warriors Assonora to lift the glittering 4th Parra Panchayat Cup, organised by PVC Parra in memory of late Visitacao Lobo, held at Parra church ground, on Sunday.

MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club Mandrem came back strongly from a goal down to register a 3-1 win over Goan Warriors Assonora to lift the glittering 4th Parra Panchayat Cup, organised by PVC Parra in memory of late Visitacao Lobo, held at Parra church ground, on Sunday.
It was the Goan Warriors that stunned their opponents with a 15th minute goal, wherein an intelligent floater by Rajesh Salgaonkar saw Pritemesh connect his header to unmarked Terrence Fernandes who stabbed the ball past Dunes keeper Shridhar Pujar 1-0.
Down by a goal, Dunes went all out in search of an equaliser when Vivek Naik made no mistake to nod the ball at the far post off a perfect cross from Glenson Britto, 1-1.
On crossing over, Dunes pumped in two more goals where a long rang strike by Leslie Britto crashed into the goal after brushing Goan Warrior’s keeper hands, 2-1.
Goan warriors had two chances to level terms but Dunes keeper Shirdhar denied Milind Shinde and Vijet Salgaonkar from scoring.
In the closing stages of the match a pinpoint cross by Shashank Asvekar saw Slyvester Dias finish with a strong header, 3-1.
At the start of the match the PVC club officials Franky Viegas, Gregory D’Souza, Hector Trinade, Jerry introduced the chief guest Michael Lobo-Deputy Speaker & MLA Calangute Constituency, guest of honour Bruno Coutinho former International player and other dignitaries to the players and officials.
Dunes SC returned home richer with the winners’ cash prize of Rs 50,000 and trophy, while Goan Warriors had to be content with the runners-up prize of Rs 30,000.
Milagres SC and Candolim SC – the semi-finalist were awarded Rs 10,000 each.
Michael Lobo-speaking to the gathering promised the youth of Parra that before the next tournament a green turf would be laid on the present ground where the players could play better football and cricket.
A man with vision said that with the assistance of the Parra Panchayat and sport lovers he desires to construct an indoor stadium in his village, which would cater to volley-ball, swimming and other indoor sports activities, which would be one of the best in Goa.
