MARGAO: A brilliant brace by striker Craig Menezes helped Dunes Sports Club to win the GFA Under-20 Second Division League title after slaying Sarzora Sports Club 5-2, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday.
Dunes led 4-0 at half time. Dunes breached the rival defence umpteen times and rocked the rival citadel in the 18th minute when striker Craig nodded in off a well executed chip from Shashank Naik.
Spurred by the early success, Dunes were aggressive and never allowed their opponents to manoeuvre inside their territory. Dunes doubled the lead in the 24th minute when Shashank Ashvekar bulge the net when he beat his markers with stiff shot.
Six minutes later, Craig increased the lead when he headed home to complete his brace off Sandesh Sawant well chip from the flank.
At the other hand, Sarzora did not have a single shot on the rival goal for most part of the first half and their goalkeeper had a tough time in containing the Dunes’ strikers. At the stroke of lemon break, Shashank made it 4-0.
Crossing over, there was brief drama when Elroy Moniz pulled a goal back in the 49th minute and Riyaz Awati then succumbed home to make it 2-4 in the 64th minute.
Unfazed Dunes were much more composed and in the 70th minute Albert Britto, scored the fifth goal of the evening.
