MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem were stretched into the penalty shootout to register a 4-3 win over Sai Avatar SC, Anjuna to move into next round of 7th Reis Magos Panchayat Soccer Cup organized by Stamina Cricket Club, Verem, at Verem ground, on Monday.
At the end of regulation time, the teams failed to score.
Dunes SC colts were a better lot, as their strikers came up with repeated raids on the rival territory.
There was some heroic display by Sai Avatar SC custodian Soma Korgaonkar, who came to his team’s rescue with some out of the blue saves to take the match into the penalty shootout.
Dunes SC kept their cool in the tie-breaker as Shankar Ashwekar, Sandesh Sawant and Anson Lobo were on target while for Sai Avatar SC Saprem Diukar, Dinesh Moraskar and Akshay Vengurlekar scored.
