MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club, Arambol proved to be too good as they drubbed St. Anthony’s SC Marna 4-1 in the inaugural match of the 21st Vagator Soccer Cup organized by Vagator PYSC, at Ozran ground, here on Monday.
The teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at the breather. Dunes shot into the lead in the 10th minute with Alberto Britto dribbling past the Marna keeper Salil Chari.
After much probing, Marna levelled terms in the 25th minute when they were awarded a penalty by the referee Deepraj Sangelkar when Pushparaj Mandrekar was brought down by the Dunes defender Simon Fernandes. Marna equalized through Sangam Pednekar who scored from the penalty spot.
On crossing over, Dunes further increased their lead when Stepelton Fernandes sent a through pass to Shashank Achrekar who finished with a stiff grounder to make it 2-1.
As the match progressed, Dunes netted in the third goal from the penalty spot after Sahil Pompupherkar was brought down by Anson Lobo inside the penalty box. Stephleton stepped forwarded and scored to make it 3-1.
In the closing of the match, Stephleton netted his brace as he guided the ball into the goal off a pass from Alberto Britto to make it 4-1.
