CALANGUTE: Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem scored a hard fought goal victory over Holiday Club, Arpora to move into quarter-finals of Mc Dowell’s No.1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Calangute Association, at Calangute Assocition ground, Calangute, on Wednesday.
At halftime the score was 0-0.
Crossing over, Dunes SC found the mark in the 40th minute of play with Sandesh Sawant finding the net off a corner pass by Shashank.
Arpora Keeper failed to stop the ball entering the net much to the disappointment of colleagues and fans. Dunes SC could have immediately doubled the lead but Anant failed to connect a pass from Salvador.
Arpora came near to drawing level but Dunes SC keeper Rakesh rushed out to deny Kalpesh a goal. Another good move by Paresh and Gauresh went abegging in the 48th minute of play.
In the 50th minute, Dunes SC had a golden opportunity to increase the lead but Anant shot wide off the mark with only the keeper at his mercy.
Shashank missed another opportunity for Dunes SC as Arpora keeper rushed out to save his try at goal.
Arpora came close to scoring in the 55th minute but Janio headed wide off a Stanley cross. Thereafter, it was Dunes SC all way coming near to scoring on couple of occasions but their forwards muffed easy chances in front of the goal.
Arpora came close to drawing level in the dying minutes of play but Dunes SC Keeper charged out to collect the ball before Paresh could reach to the ball. Ritesh Narvekar was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
