MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club came back from a goal down to scrape past United Club of Telaulim by 2-1 in the GFA’S Geno First Division League, at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
It was amazing performance from the Telaulim side who lost their earlier 6 matches and drawn one, saw them go into the breather with a one goal lead against their opponents through Ruflon Fernandes.
However, Dunes came back strongly in the second session and scored through Devendra Pednekar and Shashank Ashwekar.
After Monday’s match, Dunes have 12 points from 8 matches while UC Telaulim have just a one point from 8 matches.
Not even a minute after kick-off Telaulim’s Ruflon Fernandes latched a blistering strike from outside the penalty box but the Dunes keeper Alison Fernandes brought up a diving save.
Dunes almost surged ahead in the fifth minute when Eljoy Fernandes sent a cross to Jason Fernandes whose tap at the goal was cleared on the goal-line by Telaulim’s Richard Mascarenhas.
In the 11th minute, Telaulim’s Kishan Borcar sent a long ball to Ruflon Fernandes who lobbed the ball over the on rushing Dunes keeper Alison to give his side the lead.
Five minutes later, Telaulim almost doubled their lead after a lob shot by Janak Kudmal was entering the goal but keeper Alison dived and pushed the ball to safety. In the process clashed he on the goal post and had to taken to the hospital.
Dunes lost a golden opportunity of levelling terms in the 38th minute when Telaulim’s Richard fumbled with the ball inside the penalty box and the ball travelled to Alberto Britto but his strike was blocked by keeper Bryce Pereira.
On crossing over in the 49th minute, Dunes Devendra Pednekar found his skipper Shashank Ashwekar just on top of the six yard box who surprisingly failed to score.
However, finally in the 61st minute, Dunes got their equaliser when a 30 yard shot by Devendra Pednekar dipped into the far corner of the goal.
Telaulim’s Jesmon Soares was sent off by referee Shivram Thanekar for using foul language on him.
Dunes extended their lead in the 75th minute when a direct free-kick by Shashank Ashwekar brushed keeper Bryce hand and entered the goal to make it 2-1.
In the added time, Dunes’ Alberto Britto was given marching orders by the referee for deliberately kicking his opponent.
