MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club had to wait for the penalty shoot-out to register a 5 -4 win over Goa Velha Sports Club and advance into the quarters of the Anjuna Gymkhana Cup organised by Anjuna Gymkhana Sports Club, at Anjuna Gymkhana ground, on Monday.
In a well balanced first half, both the teams displayed attacking football. In spite of creating goal scoring opportunities, both the teams failed to score.
At the end of first half, a long throw in from Amit opened space for Leslie in the penalty area, who made no mistake in giving his team the lead at the break.
With a goal down, Goa Velha went all out attacking, 10 minutes into second half, they received a free-kick, but Joseph’s shot went inches over the crossbar.
As the clock ticked away, pressure mounted on Goa Velha, but three more chances went in vain.
However, their efforts were rewarded as they equalised after a mistake by a defender who failed to clear the ball and put it into his own net.
In the tie-breaker to decide the winners, Shashanle, Vivele, Kanulkar, Amir scored for Dunes while Suresh, Anthony, Lokesh for Goa Velha.
