MAPUSA, SEPT 9
A brace from Durgadas Morajkar ensured Holiday SC Arpora, went two points clear at the top of the table as they defeated Sai Avtar 5-0 in GFA’s 3rd Division at Anjuna ground on Thursday. The score was 1-0 at the breather.
Former Churchill Brothers player Samir Naik came on as an early substitute to increase the tempo of the game and win the ball at the heart of the midfield for Holiday.
Sai Avtar played their final match in the 3rd Division and failed to qualify for the play-offs after securing only four points from five outings. The team put up a spirited display with good passing and can feel proud of their performance.
In the 36th minute, Holiday Sports Club opened the scoring after a stroke of luck. The Sai Avtar goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball but it hit the onrushing Holiday forward Durgadus Morajkar and rebounded into the net.
In the 47th, Samir Naik punted home to double the lead.
Twelve minutes later Holiday’s Kalpesh Naik shot from the right side, the ball rattled the crossbar on its way in.
Abhijeet Salgaocar was injured in the 70th minute which reduced Sai Avtar to ten men momentarily as they had already used their three substitutions.
Durgadus took advantage of having the extra man, firing in his second and Holiday’s fourth of the match.
A minute later, Holiday’s Cyril Lucas ran down the right and delivered in a cross for substitute Zion Carvalho to tap in to seal the victory.
In another match at Chapora ground, Arpora Sporting Club and Nagoa Sporting Club were involved in an amazing 3-3 draw.
Francis Coutinho opened the scoring for Nagoa in the fifth minute. Suraj Diulkar equalized in the 32nd for Arpora.
After the breather Joachim Gonsalves put Arpora ahead in the 57th only to see the lead wiped out 15 minutes later, after a strike from Nagoa’s Maximo Fernandes.
Arpora stormed in the lead again through Rajesh Pombursaker with victory insight. Jetlie Simone levelled in the last minute to bag an important point for Nagoa.
