MAPUSA: Saligao Sporting Club scored a huge 5-2 win over Sodiem Siolim Sports Club in the GFA Second Division League, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
At halftime the winners led by a 3-2 margin.
It was the Sodiem outfit that broke the deadlock in the 6th minute when Maruti Harizan danced his way past the Saligao defence before firing home the ball past the onrushing custodian, 1-0.
Ten minutes into the match, Saligao managed to level terms with Rohan Pendnekar scoring through a fine placement, 1-1.
Sodiem once again managed to take the lead couple of minutes later when Aniket Agardadekar fired home the ball through a long range effort, 2-1.
Saligao Sporting responded with two quick goals in the 39th and 40th minute of play through James Fernandes to finish off the first session with a 3-2 lead.
Changing ends, Saligao Sporting were all over their rivals and netted in two more goals through Abhijit Gaunkar in the 60th minute and Ajay Diwadkar in the injury time.
At Poriat grounds, PVC Parra got the better of Benny XI Mapuca by a 3-1 win while at Quitula grounds A A De Moira scored a narrow 1-0 win over Candolim Sports Club.
Candoim had their chances to score but their strikers failed to keep their cool infront of the rival goal.
