PORVORIM: The Goa Cricket Association’s (GCA) T20 Goa Professional League (GPL) 2015 is scheduled to commence from February 21 with the final slated for March 6. A total of eight teams will take part in the mega event with two matches being played, at the GCA Academy ground, here, on a daily basis.
The announcement was made by GCA Vice-President and Tournament Director, Amaresh Naik in the presence of President Dr Shekar Salkar and other members.
“The six Goan teams namely are Dempo Cricket Club, Chowgule Warriors, Sarvodaya Royals, Salgaocar Sports Club, Geno Sports Club and Caculo. Two outstation teams, Jain Academy and Delhi Warriors will also be participating in this tournament,” stated Naik.
A pool of around 75 players have been selected and only after conducting their fitness tests, they will be presented in three categories namely elite, category ‘A’ and category ‘B’. Minimum bidding/auction price for the players has been fixed as under category elite Rs 1 lakh, category A Rs 50,000 and category B Rs 30,000.
Auction of the players will be held on February 9, at 4 p.m. in the capital city. The outstation teams will have to bid for four players from the GPL auction list.
“The winning team will pocket Rs eight lakhs while the runner-up will get five lakhs. The losing semi-finalists will be awarded Rs 1.5 lakhs each. The man-of-the-match prize is Rs 10,000 and the player of the tournament will get Rs 50,000,” added Naik.
