PANJIM: Thirty 2-wheeler riders alongwith National supercross and motocross champions provided an exciting display before a New Year crowd of about 5,000 at the exhibition-cum-selection at Navelim, Sunday.
Alan Sequeira and Javed Shaikh, with their superb control and skill monouevering displayed their mastery over the machine, while the young riders were provided the finer points about racing, with safety aspects given due prominence.
“Using standard safety equipment is paramount in riding. And, helmets are a must for all 2-wheeler riders, whether racing or not,” stressed Alen in his key message.
The exhibition provided good fare to the large New Year’s Day crowd with the young riders eager to display their talents.
The young riders opined: “This was a unique chance presented to us by South Goa riders. Such opportunities come rarely, so we decided to take the plunge, even if we were not totally ready. Most of us thought about it for a while, and then decided it was a lifetime opportunity to do something really cool. We profited from it. We learnt a lot and that’s important.” One of them added: “It created wonderful memories.”
Following riders were selected for the upcoming event in Hubli.
Expert class: Raju Fernandes, Joaquim D’Silva, Irfan Killedar.
Scooter class: Sangam Telgu, Sarvesh Naik, Glande Fernandes.
4-stroke class: Samresh Vadavodkar, Charles Fernandes, Sushant Borkar.
Stock class: Irfan Killedar, Ankush Rao, Charles Fernandes.
Novice class: Irfan Killedar, Charles Fernandes, Sushant Borkar.
Cheryl Sequeira, manager of the event, was ecstatic with the number of entries which she said were unexpected. She was all the more surprised that such a vast crowd turned up for the same.
On being asked if the licences and permissions were obtained, she replied in the affirmative.
