RAIA: Don Bosco, Fatorda, and Sharda Mandir, Panjim, emerged champions in the U-15 boys and girls category respectively in the U-13 and U-15 boys and girls basketball tournament organised to commemorate the 50-year Golden Jubilee celebrations of Don Bosco, Fatorda.
In the highly anticipated U-15 boys final, there being loud support for both teams the home team Don Bosco kept building the lead with each quarter and ultimately prevailed over Sonics 36-24. The Fatorda team used their toughness and speed to overcome the Sonics boys, with Sean scoring 14 and Nathan 6 points for the winning team, while Roy with 6 points topscoring for the Sonics.
In the U-15 girls final, Sharda Mandir, Panjim, handily managed to beat Sonics 29-16. Prema with 12, Amie with 10 were in great form for the Sharda team, while Keiya with 8 topscoring for Sonics.
The U-13 girls final ended up being rather one sided, with Sonics getting the better of a Fatima Convent School team 28-6. Kim with 14 points shone for the winners, while Rihanna with 4 points kept Fatimas is the game very briefly.
The U-13 boys final, ended up being a much closer affair, with the Britto’s Mapusa team managing to squeak past the home team Don Bosco, Fatorda, 24-18. Dillon with 14 and Nolan with 14 played their hearts out for the winning and losing team respectively.
Rector of Don Bosco Oratory Fr Ralin D’Souza was present with Fr George Quadros and Melba Paes, former basketball player, sports enthusiast and aunt of tennis great Leander Paes, for the prize distribution ceremony.
