VARCA: Fatorda Veterans eased past Candolim Veterans 2-0 to clinch the 2nd all Goa Clement memorial veterans football tournament, organised by Youth of Fatrade, at Varca ground, on Sunday .
Fatorda took the lead in the 23rd minute when Mahesh Kambli on receiving a pass from Xavier Colaco slammed past Candolim keeper Xavier Pereira.
At the other end, Candolim’s Pele Xavier missed an open chance with only the Fatorda keeper Romeo Pereira at his mercy.
In the second half, Jerson Cardozo doubled the lead for Fatorda with a neat placement giving no chance for Candolim’s Xavier Pereira.
Candolim Veterans put lot of pressure to find the equaliser but failed to score as Fatorda Veterans defence stood firm.
Fatorda’s Xavier Colaco bagged the man of the match award.
Chief guest was Tony Dias (Conny Enterprises Coke) gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guest of honour Reginaldo Rodrigues (ex Sarpanch and present member of V.P, Varca), Crosly Charlton Lourenco (ex-Sarpanch VP Varca). The winners got Rs 40,000 while the runners-up pocketed Rs 30,000.
