FC Bardez down Signals in ill-tempered match

NAVELIM: FC Bardez got the better of Corps of Signals 2-0 in the GFA U-20 TACA Goa league match, in a match that was marred by frayed tempers played at 3MTR ground, Rawanfond, Navelim, on Thursday.
Both the teams were reduced to 9-man wherein the play had to be stopped due to the outfield player battle between the team players and spectators.
The match started on an attacking note as both teams pressed from the first whistle.
However, it was FC Bardez which took the lead in the 29th minute through Ashely Cardozo. Bardez led 1-0 at the break.
Crossing over, the match turned quite physical as both team players seemed more aggressive towards their opponents thus tackling harsh.
In the 67th minute, both the team were reduced to 10-man as referee showed straight red for FC Bardez’s Cavin Soares and Signals Lallawmsanga.
That didn’t end, both the players got into physical duel on their way to the dressing room wherein the players and spectators also got into the duel with each other forcing the referee to halt the match.
Just when it seemed the problem was resolved –the play was resumed, but the physical duel on the pitch continued as both the keepers were given the marching orders following their respective challenges on their rival players.
In the 73rd minute, Ashley doubled the lead for the winners.
Speaking to some of the football enthusiast present for the match, Menino Rodrigues of Arlem said,”It’s a shame to see the teams behave like this. They showed no sporting spirit.”
