MAPUSA: Second half goals from Joywin Carneiro and Chatur Naik helped Football Club de Bardez to hold Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim to a 2-2 draw in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.
Earlier in the first half, Mathew Colaco and Allwyn Vaz had scored for the South Goa club.
After losing to Guardian Angel SC by five goals in the last match, Bardez coach Climax Lawrence made three changes to his side bringing in Joyson D’Souza, Ronil Azavedo and Krishnanath Shirodkar in the playing XI, while Cavelossim who edged past Panjim Footballers in the previous round match also had few changes to their side as Aaron Antao and Allwyn Vaz made into the cut.
Cavelossim were the first to look at the goal in the first minute when their midfielder Moises D’Sa went for the glory from the distance but the Bardez keeper David Chauhan came up with a brilliant block to keep their side safe.
However in the 10th minute, Bardez keeper David was completely helpless when Moises snatched the ball from Bardez defender Lalbabu Matho and squared it to Mathew Colaco who banged it in the goal from inside the box to put Cavelossim into the lead.
Bardez also had a chance to put the terms on level when their striker Stany Braganza was just left with keeper Razak Devsor to beat but the forward’s weak shot was comfortably collected by the Cavelossim custodian.
Cavelossim striker Allwyn made it 2-0 for his side in the 36th minute when he finished the ball in the net after receiving a perfect through pass from Moises from the outside the box.
Just after scoring the second, Cavelossim completely dominated the rest of the session where Bardez
defenders were seen busy clearing opponent’s attacks.
On changing the sides, Cavelossim keeper Razak came with a brave save when he nicely paired Bardez midfielder Inacio Colaco’s goal-bound free-kick for a corner.
After some probing attacks, Bardez finally managed to reduce the margin in the 57th minute when Joywin
Carneiro made no mistake to bang the ball into the empty net after receiving a cut-back pass from Kirtikesh Gadekar from inside the box.
Two minutes later, Moises should have restored the two-goal lead for Cavelossim when he was in the commanding position but the midfielder failed to control his shot with just Bardez custodian at the stake.
At the other end, just-in striker Chatur Naik put Bardez on the level terms when Sherman Vaz set up him with a short pass in the box who later tapped in from 6 yards to make it 2-2 for his side.
Whereas, Cavelossim had a chance to once again go into the lead in the 78th minute when substitute striker Semson Fernandes made a superb run in the box but the Bardez keeper David blocked him in a one-on-one to keep his side safe.
