PANJIM: FC Goa successfully completed the first edition of its summer initiative FC Goa Social, at Fr Agnel Central School, Pilar, recently. The one month long programme was an initiative launched by the club to get the participants to get active during the summer and develop their interest in football and was designed for participants who were aged between 6 and 14 years.
FC Goa’s Techincal Director Katz Naidoo and Development Director Gavin Araujo developed the programme with the key focus being placed on self-expression, creativity and enjoyment of the game. The 36 participants trained on alternate days and were divided into groups based on their ages.
The curriculum not only fulfilled the need of keeping participants busy during the summer vacation but also taught some techniques and elements that are used in training the elite group at the club. The focus was on small sided games which enabled the participants to get more attention and direction from coaches. Practice matches with teams from FC Goa’s 17 centres were also held during the duration of the programme so that participants could understand their drawbacks and improve on their game.
On the final day, the participants were in for a surprise as FC Goa’s full back Keenan Almeida dropped in to spend some time interacting with the participants and their parents.
Speaking on the programme success, Gavin Araujo informed, “We are delighted with the response we’ve got from the participants and their parents.
