PANJIM: FC Goa scored a last-gasp winner through Lesley Rebello to register a narrow 1-0 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club in the Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
The all-important goal was scored from a set-piece in the stoppage time (90+4).
The Curchorem side were first to come close to scoring when Fedrich Fernandes found Clifton in the area but the latter’s shot missed the target narrowly.
At the other end, Curchorem side keeper Oswin came with a fine save to stop Deeshank Kunkalkar from scoring. He then saved Mevan’s shot from inside the box.
Meanwhile, Guardian Angel Sports Club missed another chance to score as this time James Fernandes missed the target from inside the box at the half hour mark.
The first half saw end to end battle but neither side was able to get the breakthrough.
In the second half, it was Curchorem side who had early chances in the game. First Johnson Horta saw his effort sail past the post and then Joaquim couldn’t keep his composure in front of the goal and missed from close range.
FC Goa continued to miss their chances at the other end. Lalremruata and Megan both saw their efforts being denied by the Curchorem keeper.
Just when it looked like the teams would share the points, FC Goa scored the winner in the 90+4th minute through Lesley Rebello who was there in the right place at the right time to nod in Velroy Fernandes’ corner kick.
