MAPUSA: FC Goa juniors started their campaign in the GFA’s boys U-13 football league with a 6-1 win over Dempo juniors at Guirim ground, here, on Saturday.
This year the GFA-conducted U-13 league has a seven-a-side tourney with 25 minutes each session.
Young Gaurs short into the lead in the very 3rd minute when a strike by Piyush Sawant from outside the penalty box crashed into the back of the nylons 1-0. In the very next minute, a delightful cross by Nihal saw Aloysius Fernandes head the ball into the goal for the Dempo Jr equaliser 1-1. As the match progressed Young Gaurs pumped in three more goals through Piyush Sawant, Vollan Coutinho and Kunal Hadfadkar, 4-1.
On crossing over, Dempo’s Tanvesh Pereira scored a self goal while Piyush Sawant completed his hatrick,6-1. Dempo Jrs had a chance to pull their second goal but a rasping strike by Aaron Pereira rebounded off the crossbar.
In the next match, Sesa FA edged past Pax of Nagoa SC by 4-3 margin.
