CURCHOREM: Seriton Fernandes and Peter Carvalho from Quepem were felicitated at the hands of Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude for representing FC Goa team and Goa team for Santosh Trophy respectively, at Quepem, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion after laying the foundation stone for the development, upgradation and beautification of football ground at Copelabhatt-Deao, Quepem and felicitating the two players, Gaude informed that the tribal welfare department has sanctioned Rs.1.14 crore to develop and upgrade the ground on the 20 thousand square meters land through the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs department.
Quepem MLA and Opposition Leader Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar informed that the work of green ground would commence immediately and will be completed within a years’ time with all the basic required facilities so that locals can take maximum benefits and can produce more and more players including girl’s players from Quepem and surrounding areas.
Quepem Chairperson Raul Pereira, Vice Chairperson Paulo Fernandes, Ward Councillor William Fernandes, Director of Sport and Youth Affairs V M Prabhu Dessai, Quepem Physical Education Officer John Fernandes, Councillors, Zilla and panch members were present on the occasion.
