PANJIM: FC Goa topped the Goa Zone in the U-18 Elite I-league following their 4-2 win against Sesa FA in the final league match at Sirsaim ground and qualified for the final round, on Friday.
FC Goa led 2-1 at the break as Meuton and Vasim scored to put them ahead but Sesa FA pulled a goal back just before the breather.
Crossing over, Sesa FA restored parity but FC Goa managed to take the lead through Mevan. Once up by a goal, FC Goa dominated and then took control of the proceedings and soon consolidated their lead through Melisho. FC Goa won 4-2 and qualified for the final round.
FC Goa played eight games and pocketed 17 points to finish at the top. The young Gaurs scored 13 goals and conceded just 5.
Speaking to Herald after the victory, FC Goa coach Gavin Araujo said, “The boys have worked hard for the past eight months to achieve our first hurdle. A big thanks to our management for providing us with the best facilities for our training. Last two years we have managed to get to the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. This time we will try to go beyond,” added Araujo thanking the entire U18 technical staff.
Meanwhile in another match at Nagoa ground, Salgaocar FC defeated Sporting Clube de Goa 2-0. Aaron Barreto and Shubham Shirwaikar scored a goal each for the winning team.
