MARGAO: FC Goa scored a comfortable 5-1 win over Velsao Sports and Cultural Club in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday.
Doyal Alves (38’, 73’) scored a brace while Hayden Fernandes (43’), Christy Davis (4’) and a Sadik Shaikh (84’) own goal helped FC Goa score five goals. Shubham Rao Dessai (9’) got on the score sheet for Velsao.
The Young Gaurs now have 30 points from 17 matches while Velsao SC remain on 11th position with 15 points from 19 games. FC Goa scored the first goal in the fourth minute through Christy Davis, which was soon cancelled out by Velsao SCC’s Shubham Rao Dessai in the eighth minute.
The latter part of the match saw both the sides play end to end football but the goal eluded them.
However, in the 38th minute, FC Goa U-20 Doyal Alves scored his first goal of his GPL campaign to regain their lead.
In the 40th minute, Velsao SCC conceded a penalty when their defender brought down FC Goa’s Nestor Dias in the box.
Hayden Fernandes, who was back in the squad after being out for four months through injury, stepped up and scored past the Velsao keeper Presley Mascarenhas to make it 3-1.
The half time score read 3-1 in favour of the Gaurs.
In the second half, FC Goa continued from where they had left off and in the 73rd minute Doyal bagged his second of the evening when he guided the ball into the back of the net.
Things went from bad to worse for the Velsao players as they conceded their fifth goal in the 84th minute when Sadiq guided the ball into his own net.
