PANJIM: FC Goa is set to host their U-12 Grassroots football tournament on February 14, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, from 8.30 a.m.
The tournament will witness participation from 16 of FC Goa’s Grassroots Centres across the State and is conceived exclusively for kid’s upto the age of 12 years. The tournament will also aid the participating school teams in their bid to kick start their preparations for the Indian Super League Grassroots Festival which is slated for April 4.
Arjuna Awardee Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, who has been invited as the special guest and will be present said, “This is a great opportunity for the kids to play in a competitive and organized environment .They will learn from the experiences and it will carry them in good stead going forward. What is also excellent is that FC Goa is focussing its initiatives on the younger age groups as well and looking to nurture talent from a young age rather than just adding the finishing touches.”
Sukhvinder Singh, CEO of FC Goa said, “This initiative reiterates FC Goa’s commitment to providing an excellent platform to identify and cultivate young local football talent across the State. The grassroots program helps find and nurture kids at the grassroots level and to improve the talent pool for the U-14 teams for the coming years.”
The 16 centers for the tournament are as follows. St Anthony’s HS, Duler; Assagao Union; Fatima HS, Rivona; Fr Agnel Ashram HS; St Anthony’s HS, Guirim; Sarasvat Vidyala; St Rock’s HS; Our Lady of poor, Tilamol; St Joseph’s HS, Arpora; Fr Agnel HS, Pilar; St Xavier HS; Assumpta HS, Sarzora; St Britto’s HS, Mapusa; St Joseph HS, Chandor; St Rita’s HS, Maina and Santa Cruz HS.
