MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa proved to be too good for Snows Football Academy Raia registering a 4-0 win in the Group B match of the U-21 All India Bandodkar Gold Trophy football tournament organized by GFA, at Duler Stadium, here, on Sunday.
With a relatively low crowd in attendance to watch the prestigious Bandodkar Gold Trophy, both the sides went into the breather locked in a goalless draw.
Sporting Clube had a number of goal scoring opportunities in the first session of play, but their strikers failed to deliver the goods upfront.
They had the first crack at the rival goal in the 10th minute of play. However, Snows FA keeper Beneston Barretto made a clean collection off Sporting Clube’s Avrhisto Fernandes 25-yard strike.
Snow FA too had their chance at getting into the lead when Carry Vaz made a good run into the rival citadel and flashed a dangerous cross across the face of the goal. However, Sporting Clube keeper Selwyn D’Souza came with a good save before Desmond Pereira could get his feet to the ball.
In the 30th minute, Steve Fernandes fired in a rasping right footer from the edge of the 18-yard box. However, ball deflected for a corner after brushing the legs of the defender.
Sporting Clube’s Ndidi Chukwuma and Akeraj Martins built up a fine move. However, they failed to get the ball into the back of the Snows FA nets.
Crossing over, Sporting Clube initiated three vital substitutions in their squad which was rightly rewarded and they all netted in a goal each.
The winners broke the deadlock in the 50th minute of play when Harshad Naik sent a pinpoint cross to Nigerian Ndidi Chukwuma, who got the better of his marker Brian Faria and slotted the ball home, 1-0
Couple of minutes later, Daryl Costa doubled the lead for Sporting Clube through a powerful strike from outside the penalty area, 2-0.
Thereon, Daryl came close to scoring his brace on two occasions, however first his strike was cleared away on the goalline by Snows FA defender Valito Miranda and then his curling corner kissed the Snows FA woodwork.
Three minutes later, Moises D’Sa, who came off the bench in the initial moments of the second half, took Sporting Clube up by three goals, scoring from a long range effort, 3-0.
When it looked that Sporting Clube would stop at that, their third substitute of the match, Brandon Gomes got his name to the scorers list when he charged into the Snows FA danger zone before drilling in a low grounder, 4-0.
Man-of-the-Match award of Rs 5,000 was handed over to Quan Gomes of Sporting Clube by CEO of Zest Concept Rahul Rodrigues.
